The Tiranga, the national flag of India, is much more than just a piece of cloth fluttering in the wind. It is a powerful symbol of the country’s unity, freedom, sacrifice, and pride. The word “Tiranga” simply means “tricolour.” As the name suggests, the Indian national flag consists of three horizontal stripes of different colours – saffron at the top, white in the middle, and green at the bottom. In the center of the white stripe lies a navy blue Ashoka Chakra, a wheel with 24 spokes. Though simple in appearance, every colour and symbol in the Tiranga carries a deep and meaningful message.
The top band of the flag is saffron, which represents courage, sacrifice, and the spirit of renunciation. It reminds us of the brave freedom fighters who gave their lives for the independence of India.
